National Community Radio DAy – June 19, 2020

This Friday, June 19th is National Community Radio Day. It’s the day when CRAOL- Community Radio Ireland – and its member stations across Ireland celebrate and recognise the work and commitment of the more than two and a half thousand people – volunteers and staff – involved in this vibrant sector of the media.

Wired FM is Limerick’s college radio station, and a community station too. Our community is the student population of Limerick. We are privileged to be members of Craol, and part of this wonderful network of dedicated stations throughout Ireland.

Begun in 2015, National Community Radio Day focuses on the Social Benefit of Community Radio, and celebrates all the hard working volunteers who do such unique and enthusiastic work. Wired has existed primarily as a streaming service since Covid19 restrictions, but we go back on air today to celebrate this unique national event that culminates in a special four hour broadcast at noon, hosted by 92.5 Phoenix FM, with contributions from all the stations in the community radio network.

We kick off at 9am with Vs’ the Mornin’, which will feature a host of great Limerick artists, all fantastic music released over the last 12 months. There has been so much of it! Later this evening, at 4pm, we have new interviews with Irish artist’s courtesy of Dylan Murphy and his All Ireland show, followed by a seelction of programmes produced with the help of Craol and the Community Foundation for Ireland, and from 7-9pm, we’ll play you out again with music from Limerick artists recorded live for Wired FM. It’s good to be back (on FM) for the day, but we are here throughout the summer and you can listen to our stream 24/7 by clicking on our stream in the right hand corner of your screen. You can also listen via Tunein, Facebook and various other streaming services. We return to FM in September, and if any students, new or old, are interested in getting involved, we will start running online training courses in late August. Contact manager@wiredfm.ie for more information, to get involved and volunteer on your college radio station!

We hope your’e all keeping safe and well!
