Europe on Air Episdoes 6 & 7

Europe On Air LogoEurope on Air, Near Fm‘s new weekly programme examines the impact the EU can have on the lives of the Irish and European identity. The 6th and 7th programmes in the series will be broadcast on Wired FM tomorrow, 30th April fom 9-10am.

Part six of the series will air at 9am and will be looking at the meaning of  European Citizenship with particular emphasis on the rights and benefits that accompany a European citizen and how being an Irish citizen in Ireland compares to other citizens of the various nations within the EU.

Special guests include Nikita Evans and Temi Liadi, Foróige participants in project “Day in the Life of a Young European”,  James Kilcourse, Irish Institute of International & European Affairs and Susan Lovatt, Manager, EU Direct Blanchardstown

 ‘European citizenship brings advantages to all age groups in Europe. I am pleased to have the input of two of our youngest guests this week and to hear about European matters from the younger generation’ states Dorothee Meyer-Holtkamp, producer of Europe on Air.

Discussions will involve the following:

  • What is European Citizenship? – including the rights and benefits that it brings
  • Consular protection when travelling abroad
  • What does the EU have to offer in the current global environment? e.g. human rights, democracy, economy, society, etc.
  • Voting Rights as an EU Citizen
  • Expansion of the EU

Part seven of the series airs at 9.30am and will be looking at the asylum process in Ireland with special interest in personal experiences of asylum seekers in Ireland and the implications of EU obligations on lifestyles.

Special guests include a person who is currently in the asylum process, David Leonard, Barrister and expert in asylum law and Killian Forde, CEO, The Integration Centre. Bronwen Maher political activist will be the presenter of this week’s programme.

Discussions will involve the following:

  • personal experiences of the asylum process
  • asylum law and how it works in practice
  • how Ireland has implemented certain EU obligations
  • how integration is working
  • how Ireland compares to other European countries with regard to refugees and asylum seekers
  • what is needed to improve the situation
